After years of working with isolation and anxiety, one of the things I've realized recently is that in a world where isolation is the norm, it's not something to be overcome, but rather something that can serve to harden you and those around you. With external factors like COVID-19, I've realized that we need to be more positive, and that looking inward and finding joy in ourselves is ultimately good for ourselves and others we interact with.
Virtual games, where you create an avatar, decorate your home and make friends, have become very popular, where you can do things you couldn't do in real life. The "Hide and Seek/Exit" series focuses on the emotion of "playfulness," which is similar to enjoying your own world in a game. It shifts from the perspective of a stranger wandering on the outside to that of a resident living in an inner utopia. Because of this, the characters in the paintings look different. In a place where you don't have to hide your emotions, they have faces, eyes that sparkle and make expressions, or they take the form of trees or animals. They become your avatars and new beings in their own right, creating their own world in the painting.
Just as you move from one quest to another, let's explore Choi's amusement park together, looking for hidden exits in the paintings. You never know, there might be an invisible passage between painting and painting.
